Direct aid of 1,200 euros to buy a passenger car

This is one of the demands of the eleven main associations that defend the interests of the automotive industry. For the first time in a long time they have joined forces to call on the Government for complementary measures that revive sales of new and used vehicles. Under the protective umbrella of the CEOE and its president, Gerardo Díaz Ferrán.
Today they will hand Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero a document detailing the need to boost sales through direct aid of 1,200 euros for each passenger car or light commercial vehicle of 3,500 kilograms, 3,000 euros for industrial vehicles weighing between 3,500 and 16,000 kilograms, and 12,000 euros for vehicles weighing more than 16,000 kilograms.
This scrappage plan for passenger cars over ten years old and industrial vehicles over seven years old, similar to those already approved in France, Germany or Italy, would run for one year and would generate an additional demand of 150,000 vehicles, at a cost of close to 560 million, which the Administration would largely recover through the various taxes levied on motor vehicles. In fact, according to the associations’ calculations, the plan’s fiscal balance would yield gains of 223 million euros for the State coffers, without taking into account the potential savings in healthcare costs arising from road accidents, estimated at 2,200 million.
Since the sector’s 83,000 companies continue to face difficulties in accessing the demanding credit lines made available by banks, the associations are requesting an additional injection of financial resources, in order to facilitate the purchase of cars and commercial vehicles by private individuals and companies.
