If you enjoy "camper" vans, you have reason to celebrate: Volkswagen will launch the production version of the California XXL
Fans of the camper world have reason to celebrate, because Volkswagen will launch the production version of the California XXL prototype at the end of August

One of the ways of travelling on holiday that has become most fashionable is a “camper” van. That is, a commercial van that has been adapted to become a fully equipped motorhome, but in a reduced version. This does not mean it lacks any of the comforts you can find in a larger motorhome. With this in mind, it is only natural that commercial vehicle manufacturers dedicate themselves to preparing models of this kind for their buyers.
Volkswagen is one of the major commercial vehicle manufacturers and also of some of the best-known “camper” vans. In Germany one of the most famous fairs for this type of vehicle in the world is held, and it is there that you will be able to see some of the most important vehicles in this range. Volkswagen will present a new “camper” van model based on the Crafter. In fact, it will be the production version of the California XXL concept, which was presented in 2017.

Like that concept model, the new version will have a dynamic and fresh style, designed for leisure moments spent aboard this vehicle to live as at home away from home. The new version will be based on the T6 California, so the bodywork will be finished in one or two colours, a classic of the range. The “California” badge was born in 1988, based on the third generation of the “Bulli“, and the sixth generation of the legendary camper van is currently being developed. Over these 30 years around 100,000 units have been sold, making it the most popular model of this type of vehicle on the market.

The features of this new version include a high-end equipment list, with a bathroom with toilet and shower, and the kitchen and rest areas are designed for life on the move, so they complement each other seamlessly. If it is based entirely on the California XXL version, it will have front and rear seats that rotate 180º and a bed 2 metres long, very suitable for two people to rest.
The kitchen will allow comfortable movement, with two hobs, a sink and a fridge. The production version to be presented is expected to include a bench and quite a lot of storage space, designed to integrate with the rest of the interior. Perhaps it arrives a little late to debut this year, but it could be the star of next year’s holidays, and of many more years to come. Do you like this type of vehicle for enjoying your free time?
