Does the Toyota FT-86 and its 200 horsepower feel a bit underwhelming?

The Toyota FT-86 keeps leaking data and some photos. Can it really be so bad that it only has 200 horsepower?

Since last week, captures of certain training manuals and Japanese catalogues for the Toyota FT-86 have kept appearing online, showing that the sports model from Toyota would not be a supercar, but something closer to earth, with 200 horses.

While its twin brother, the Subaru BRZ, has been announced with almost 300 horsepower, many are wondering what all the months of waiting and anticipation were for, to unveil a coupé that doesn’t have much power.

However, we forget that the FT-86 was created not as a supercar, but as an easy-to-drive 2+2 coupé and, above all, fun. If the numbers Toyota has allowed to leak are accurate, the FT-86 would weigh around 1,200 kilos in its base version, which does not penalise the 200 HP.

Now then, hasn’t it occurred to anyone that driving a car with little power is sometimes much more fun than one with countless horsepower? Furthermore, the FT-86 strictly follows the philosophy of the original Hachiroku, as the engineers at Toyota have always said.

Does 200 horsepower feel like too little to you, or should it have a bit more?

Si se quiere un “deportivo” divertido y barato, obviamente no podemos estar hablando de tropecientos caballos… Veo perfectos esos 200 CVs, sobre todo pensando en posibles futuras versiones potenciadas
