DoorDefender, a curious gadget to protect the doors of our car

It has happened to all of us at some point. We park in a shopping centre car park and spend a good while loading up on shopping. When we get back, we find the unpleasant surprise of a dent in the door. Something small, certainly, usually caused by the owner of the car parked alongside who, when opening their door, hits ours without realising.

Fortunately, some people have thought about these things and have created a system to protect our car door once we have parked. It is a cylinder made from an anti-impact material, so that when it receives a blow from the other car’s door, it absorbs the impact and very effectively protects the bodywork, without damaging the other vehicle, which also avoids ending up scratched.

The DoorDefender is not fixed to the bodywork; it is placed after parking, in a very simple way. To do so, you only need to attach the device, which sticks to the metal thanks to its magnetic system. In this way it is held firmly in place and does not move, acting as a barrier against possible blows. It has a not very large diameter and looks like a bar, which is positioned at mid-height.

If the concern is that someone might take it and pull it off the door, it has a security system that prevents anyone with sticky fingers from taking it. This consists of a cable that runs inside the car so that, when the door is closed, it traps the device and prevents anyone from removing it. In this way, it is completely secured.

This invention, developed by a Canadian entrepreneur in 1996, has already been marketed in several European countries and is now on sale in our country.
