DS Drive Assist: this is how DS introduces level 2 autonomous driving in its models

DS, the Stellantis Group brand, will introduce level 2 autonomous driving technology in its models. It is called DS Drive Assist and it will control elements such as speed, safety distance or even the vehicle’s position within the lane. Likewise, DS has stated that “dealing with a motorway traffic jam, keeping the vehicle in its lane in all circumstances or ensuring an optimal safety distance are some of the functions of the system present in all models of the DS Automobiles range.”.

It should be noted that this new level 2 autonomous driving technology will be present in all DS equipped with an automatic gearbox. This level 2 system allows, always under the driver’s supervision, the vehicle’s own technology to manage the speed and position of the vehicle on the road while driving at a maximum of 180 km/h.

Thanks to a radar, a camera and several sensors, the car adapts to traffic conditions: it automatically follows the path chosen by the driver within the lane and regulates the speed smoothly to maintain the safety distance, coming to a complete stop if necessary. At all times, the driver can take back control.

How does DS Drive Assist work?
The system acts on acceleration, braking and steering up to a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Very useful in traffic jams or on motorways, this system offers a relaxed driving experience. Equipped with adaptive cruise control with

, the system manages both the car’s speed and its distance from the vehicles in front. This clever system can handle traffic in the middle of a jam: without driver intervention, the vehicle restarts automatically (stops of less than 3 seconds), keeping you calm behind the wheel.

On fast roads, you can delegate the driving while keeping control. The artificial intelligence relies on the onboard camera, which recognises solid and broken lines. While driving, it constantly analyses the images and interprets situations. It keeps the vehicle perfectly positioned in the lane, exactly where the driver wants it.

In addition, DS Drive Assist is complemented by DS Night Vision, an infrared camera that detects pedestrians, cyclists and animals on the road with a range of up to 100 metres. It is also combined with DS Active LED Vision, which adapts the width and reach of the light beam to driving conditions and the car’s speed. And we must not forget DS Driver Attention Monitoring, which, thanks to a camera and a dedicated infrared system located on the top of the steering wheel and windscreen, continuously monitors both the driver’s eyes and face position to detect fatigue or distraction.
