Electric vehicles from Hyundai and Genesis can now access Supercharger stations from Tesla in the United States.

The absence of an NACS charging port on these vehicles will, however, require the use of a CCS1-to-NACS adapter, which both South Korean brands will offer free of charge to their U.S. customers.

With the aim of significantly expanding their customers’ charging options, Hyundai and Genesis are delivering to all owners in the United States of one of their electric vehicles an NACS charging adapter, which will give them access to the thousands of Tesla Supercharger stations currently available in the country.

Both South Korean brands are thus following in the footsteps of other major manufacturers, such as Honda, Ford or General Motors, which implemented similar policies months after announcing their electric models’ access to Tesla Superchargers in the United States.

In this way, owners of Hyundai models such as the Kona Electric, the IONIQ 5, the IONIQ 5 N or the IONIQ 6 will substantially expand their charging options when completing a road trip. The same will apply to other Genesis models such as the GV60, the GV70 Electric or the GV80 Electric.

Steps to obtain the NACS adapter

Getting this CCS1-to-NACS adapter in the U.S. market completely free of charge is remarkably simple. According to the South Korean managers of both brands, all customers who purchased the vehicle before March 31, 2025, will begin receiving emails from April 7 onward with instructions on how to redeem it. It is important to note, moreover, that for this to be possible, an active account on the MyHyundai or MyGenesis charging services is essential, as is subscribing to email communications. Once the message has been received, there will be a 60-day period to claim the adapter.

Olabisi Boyle, Senior Vice President of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy at Hyundai North America, wanted to highlight that this move not only aims to expand customers’ charging possibilities, but also reinforces the brand’s commitment to the transition to electric mobility in the United States. Our customers will now have more options to charge their vehicles quickly and efficiently, she said.
