The Xiaomi SU7 earns five stars for safety in C-NCAP tests

C-NCAP tests make it clear that the SU7 not only offers exceptional performance at a surprisingly competitive price, but is also one of the safest vehicles on the road.

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, known until just a year ago exclusively for its consumer electronics, has surprised friends and rivals alike with its arrival in the car industry. Its first electric model, the SU7, has become a genuine sales success in the Chinese market, standing out for both its performance and the level of technology it offers relative to its selling price.

The SU7’s strengths, however, do not seem to stop there. Looking at the results of the crash tests carried out by C-NCAP, the Chinese body equivalent to Euro NCAP as we know it, Xiaomi’s electric saloon has achieved the highest rating among all the vehicles assessed by C-NCAP over the past year, earning five stars for safety.

C-NCAP tests, run by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, known by the acronym CATARC, assess vehicle safety in a similar way to Euro NCAP in Europe. These tests award a percentage score based on the level of protection offered to occupants, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, as well as to the vehicle’s active safety systems.

In carrying out these tests, the model assessed was the Xiaomi SU7 Max, the version with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, which integrates a Hesai LiDAR sensor and features the Xiaomi Pilot Max driver-assistance system. In the Chinese market this model is priced at 299,900 yuan, which at the current exchange rate comes to roughly 40,000 euros.

The safest vehicle of all those assessed by C-NCAP over the past year

In the crash tests carried out by C-NCAP, the Xiaomi SU7 Max received an outstanding rating, just short of a perfect score, with an overall score of 93.5 percent. This percentage is 8.7 percentage points higher than the average score of the other vehicles assessed by C-NCAP over the past year.

Xiaomi’s electric saloon particularly excelled in active safety, with 95.25 percent, ranking among the best in automatic emergency braking tests and lighting effectiveness. As if this were not enough, it also achieved a score of 94.31 percent for occupant protection and 90.42 percent for pedestrian protection, placing it 13.14 percentage points above the average of the vehicles assessed over the past year in the latter category.

These results make it clear that Xiaomi has not only successfully transferred its technological expertise to the automotive world, but also has the capability to compete directly with manufacturers with long experience in the sector. The SU7 stands out not only for its performance or market price, without neglecting other areas such as safety, but is a very well-rounded vehicle, as the results obtained in the C-NCAP tests demonstrate.
