Fiat will offer an electric bicycle as a replacement vehicle

The truth is we don’t really know how to take this news. It seems that FIAT has started offering as a replacement car at some dealerships adhered in Spain a bicycle, yes, one of those you have to pedal, as a replacement vehicle, if you own a FIAT 500. Of course, it’s electric, so it will do some of the effort for us. Antoine Burguière, marketing director of the Fiat brand, comments:
We have launched this campaign and our partnership with the Treck brand because of its consistency with the DNA of our model: democratic (it’s for everyone), pragmatic (the need to find more practical and faster means of mobility) and eco-technological (respectful of the environment and economical)
The dealerships adhered to this new FIAT initiative are located in Barcelona, Valencia, A Coruña, Seville, Valencia and Madrid. They will be able to request a Treck electric-assist bicycle as a replacement , but it is not clarified, although we assume so, that we will be able to request a more conventional vehicle if we wish.
Using a bicycle is fine as an initiative, in urban centres and so on, but let’s hope they don’t think something similar can be done in the Canary Islands: with the slopes these volcanic islands have, where, to name just one example, Spain’s highest peak is located, the bicycle doesn’t seem a good solution. That’s where my scepticism comes from, so we’ll have to see how FIAT fares with this eco-friendly initiative.
