Ford and Toyota will collaborate on the hybrid pick-up and SUV market
It is clear that it is more viable for one brand to partner up in search of another’s technology than to set out to develop its own technology. Now that hybrid and electric are a magnet for many consumers, there is nothing better than speeding up the process with a collaboration agreement that shortens the launch of new hybrid vehicles by a few years.
In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m talking about Ford. The best way to advance its hybrids is to partner with Toyota, which is well ahead in the field, thanks to the success of the Prius and its derivatives. So, in the future, both brands will strengthen this agreement with the addition of a new hybrid system that will be fitted to the mid-size SUVs and pick-ups of both brands.
The collaboration will continue in the field of telematics, with the development of new tools that make communication easier between the services available online and each model’s new information and assistance systems.
The process will be slow, as the agreement will be officially confirmed next year, and the new joint models are not expected to go on sale for a few more years.
