Ford announces the Heritage Edition Package for the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R

The updated Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R will celebrate their 55th anniversary with the Heritage Edition Package, which is already available

In the mid-1960s, Ford wanted to go all out by turning its beautiful coupé into one of the most powerful and fastest competition cars, for which it turned to Carroll Shelby. This version, known as the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R, was characterized not only by greater power but also by improvements to various aspects of its mechanics, by setting comfort aside in favor of sportiness, and also by a distinctive styling.

The current Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R took their time to be updated, but the American company finally decided to do so this past summer, and it did so using its big brother, the GT500, which had been improved and updated beforehand as a reference. Externally they differ due to the use of different aerodynamic components that give them a similar yet distinct look, while mechanically the GT350 and GT350R adopted components inherited directly from the GT500 despite having the same power output.

Now, based on the GT350 and GT350R, Ford will launch the Heritage Edition Package, with which it intends to pay tribute to the first generation of these models from 1965. This package only serves to provide a different look, so as you can imagine, its bodywork will be decorated mainly in the original Wimbledon White color, plus two parallel stripes running the full length of the car in Guardsman Blue, which also appear on the door sides, a blue that is also present in some of the logos and emblems on the bodywork. Additionally, in the GT350R version, the interior will feature seats upholstered in black leather with red contrast stitching.

This Heritage Edition Package styling package only adds a different touch of color to the Mustang GT350 and GT350R, so there are no mechanical changes. Thus, under the hood we will continue to find the same 5,200 cc V8 engine delivering 526 CV together with 582 Nm of torque, which is mandatorily paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The Heritage Edition Package will go on sale in early 2020, with a surcharge that was certainly not chosen by chance: $1,965, a figure that matches the year these two models were created.
