Ford Focus RS and another hypothesis: could it get the 2.3-litre Ecoboost with 330 horsepower?

According to the project director of the Ford Focus ST and of other high-performance Ford vehicles, the next Focus RS would get the Ecoboost 2.3 that will be offered in the US to replace the Mustang’s V6 engine.

While just a few days ago there were some doubts about the Focus RS, those doubts seem to have vanished, according to the head of performance at Ford, who has commented that it is very likely that the next Ford Focus RS will feature the Ecoboost 2.3 engine, destined to replace the Mustang’s V6 in the US.

According to the aforementioned Ford executive, the changes needed to adapt the engine would not be too many for it to be fitted to the Focus RS, gaining a healthy 330 horsepower. The rumours that the ST’s two-litre engine could do a good job under the bonnet of a more tuned RS are behind us, since it is at the limit of its development.

It is certain that the Focus RS will have much more generous equipment than the ST, so although we have the rumour that it would get the Ecoboost 2.3 as one of the most viable options, it is not known how much more it will cost over its less powerful sibling.

We still have a full year ahead of us before we know for certain what the RS’s engine will be, since Ford’s plans announce nothing before, at the earliest, mid-2013.
