Ford has unveiled the "rival to the Chevy Volt": the C-Max Energi

Ford announced just a few minutes ago that it will launch a plug-in model and another hybrid model of the C-Max, in fact the only two powertrains planned for the US next year. The interesting part is that they have promised the C-Max Energi will have a range much greater than the Volt, its natural competitor.
However, despite the comparisons Ford wants to draw us into, the C-Max Energi would not be the same as the Volt. While GM’s saloon uses an electric motor as a generator and range extender to power the batteries, the hybrid from Ford will work in a slightly different way.
The idea is that there will be an intermediate phase between running only on battery or only on petrol. During that phase, both fuels will be used, although Ford still has to give us more detailed information to understand this new twist on hybrids.
For now, the other variant of the C-Max will be purely hybrid and is supposed to use the same powertrain and electrical system as the Escape Hybrid. But the good news is that Ford has announced a range of around 900 kilometres with the C-Max Energi, which we fervently hope is true.
