Ford Mustang GTD: mission to lap the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes
The American car, which will go on sale at a price of $325,000, will attempt to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes.

The Nürburgring circuit is one of the most widely used in the world to test every kind of car. It is a fairly demanding track on which many drivers and racing professionals get behind the wheel to prove that both they and the vehicle are capable of meeting the challenge it poses.
And beyond completing the lap of what is also known as “The Green Hell“, what many brands want is to complete that lap in a time under seven minutes, a figure reached only by the most experienced cars and drivers. This is the goal of Ford, which wants the Mustang GTD to achieve this feat and become the first American production car to do so.

To achieve it, the Ford Mustang GTD features a twin-turbo V8 engine capable of producing 815 CV and 900 Nm of torque. With this equipment, it will not be very difficult to achieve it, although the driver’s skill and other conditions on the day also play a part.
The video Ford has presented about preparing the car for this moment suggests that this test may already have been carried out and that the Mustang GTD has managed to go below those seven minutes set as the target to beat.
The fastest American-built production car to lap the Nürburgring was the SRT Viper ACR 2017. It completed the lap in 7:01.30, a very tight time that nevertheless stayed above the target. That figure was achieved on the first lap of the test and could not be continued due to an accident that ended the attempt.
Although the goal is to go under seven minutes, the real objective is something else. Ford compares this model with the Porsche GT3, which set a time of 6:44.848. So the true aim is to place the Mustang GTD below that time and make it the faster of the two.
We do not know whether it has been achieved, but we look forward to finding out what time the Ford Mustang GTD will record, a car that will cost around $325,000 in the United States.
