Ford Tourneo Custom, renewed design and premium interior features

A few days ago we told you about the Renault Trafic SpaceClass as a very valid alternative to the two major leaders of the segment. Today we bring you a proposal that also rivals them, with a design and equipment fully up to date: the Ford Tourneo Custom. A model that is renewed both exteriorly and interiorly, to adapt it to the current image of the brand and the latest technological advances.

As with the rest of its rivals, the Ford Tourneo Custom is a vehicle intended for passenger transport for business use, or for all those people or families who also want to use it for leisure. To this end, it will be offered with 8- or 9-seat configurations, which can be fitted in its short-wheelbase or long-wheelbase version, the latter with more luggage space behind the third row of seats.

The exterior styling changes completely at the front. The nose is undoubtedly reminiscent of its passenger-car siblings, with the characteristic trapezoidal grille and large LED headlights that extend into the side line, which in the top range can also be Xenon HID. Lower down, at the extremes, the fog lamps are still located, but now of greater size than its predecessor. The rest of the model retains the same design and lines.

In the interior we also find, though not especially profound, but easily appreciable, a design that aims to follow the philosophy embodied in the new Ford Fiesta, which draws on passengers’ interaction with the latest-generation devices. The design remains horizontal in its lines, but a new instrument panel has been applied and use has been made of finishes in chrome tone and glossy black. In addition, thick-thread fabrics and fine-grain leather have been used for the upholstery, with which the aim is to reinforce the sensation of better finishes and quality.

As with its competitors, in the Ford Tourneo Custom we can swivel the second row of seats to create a “meeting mode”, although unlike the rest, it is the only one in the segment that offers six individual seats. In the higher versions, these six seats can be folded to create a flat surface, tilted, stored or removed to gain more space, which provides many alternatives for its users.

In the equipment section there are also many options. It features Sync3, where we can control elements such as navigation or the audio system with 10 synchronised speakers; there are also 6 USB ports; and a new, much more efficient air-conditioning system. The safety assistants are also up to the standard of what we find today, as it can be equipped with Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Blind Spot Information System or Emergency Brake Assist, among others.

The Ford Tourneo Custom will go on sale with the new generation of the Ford EcoBlue engine, with available outputs of 105 CV, 130 CV and 170 CV, the latter linked to the Sport version. This new version is characterised by being more efficient and offering improved consumption of up to 13%, and low-rev torque has also been improved by around 20%. It will also be available with the 6-speed SelecShift automatic transmission.

At the end of this year orders for the new Ford Tourneo Custom can already be placed, at the same time as its production begins, while deliveries are scheduled for early 2018.
