Ford Transit Custom Nugget Camper, the American van for exploring Europe

Leisure vehicles have been gaining considerable popularity in recent years. It is not only crossover vehicles, such as SUVs, but camper vans are increasingly sought after by buyers. Ford has worked to turn one of its most popular commercial vehicles into one of these camper vans, halfway between motorhomes and passenger vans. The Ford Transit Custom Nugget has arrived on the European market and promises exceptional holidays.

This model was presented at the Brussels Motor Show a few days ago and has been developed by Ford together with Westfalia and designed in two versions. The top-of-the-range version has a longer wheelbase and comes with extra equipment to make life in this motorhome more enjoyable.

The Ford Transit Custom Nugget Camper is based on the standard version of the Transit. On the upper level there is a double bed for resting, while at the rear of the camper there is another bed that can be unfolded if needed. In this space there is an L-shaped kitchen, with two burners and a 40-litre fridge for preparing and storing food. One water tank supplies drinking water and another collects waste water.

The folding table can seat five people, plus three more who can occupy an additional bench. The front seats can swivel 180 degrees and join the group in the rear. An additional table with two more chairs is also included. The Plus model is 36.7 centimetres longer, which allows for a bathroom with a toilet and a folding washbasin, as well as a somewhat larger wardrobe.

Both versions come with heating, imitation wood flooring, a partition glass between the rear and front and opening windows, which helps increase comfort and convenience. As an option, it can be fitted with a Premium sound system and equipment for carrying bicycles and other sports gear.

As for the engines of the Ford Transit Custom Nugget Camper, the model will feature a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, available in two outputs: 130 CV and 170 CV. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed gearbox, either manual or automatic. These two vans will be available this spring in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy, with other European markets, such as Spain, following later.
