Ford warms up its batteries: the 100% electric SUV based on the Mustang hints at its imminent arrival
Ford already told us a few months ago that its first 100% electric vehicle would be an SUV based on the iconic Mustang, a fact this teaser now confirms.

Electricity is presented as the lifeblood of the automotive sector which, whether we like it or not, we have to accept, since it is already a reality. Many manufacturers have turned to it to power a range of vehicles, which are becoming increasingly common in the contemporary market. Ford, one of the American brands investing most heavily in technology, announced months ago that its first 100% electric model was about to arrive, a fact we are even more convinced of after seeing a tweet that features the charismatic Mustang horse but framed in a very revealing hue.
The words “SUV”, “electric” and “Mustang” working in the same sentence startled several enthusiasts not only of the brand, but also of the irreverent muscle car. However, Ford promises a vehicle not only more committed to caring for planet Earth, but also one capable of keeping intact that character and essence so present in the sports models of the oval brand.
“Hold your horses” is the title Ford has chosen to use on its social media to show the horse that will rule over its first electric vehicle. That caption essentially means “hold your horses”, an unmistakable declaration that the power and fun characteristic of pony cars will also be present in this mysterious model despite its electric nature.

For now, the American brand has given few details about this vehicle, other than that it will take the Mustang as its basis to reach its final SUV form. Considering that Ford’s engineers will use a pure-bred sports car to shape its first electric offspring, we can infer that it will keep traits more akin to the quintessential muscle car than to a traditional SUV.
With this premise we can expect an imposing, wide car, where prominent wheel arches could be responsible for anticipating that rugged, irreverent character. At the same time, and to show a certain degree of subtlety, it would not be far-fetched to think that Ford might opt for a design more typical of a coupé, something that is possible by creating a more pronounced drop of the C-pillar.

The company has not yet made any statements about launch dates, but given the anticipation and its own hints, we must be closer than not to that event. Now we can only wait and see how Ford not only revolutionises the automotive sector, but also the newly established electric segment.
