The most extreme vehicle stopping barriers

The most extreme vehicle stopping barriers

There are different ways to stop a vehicle, and some companies have designed the most extreme detection barriers ever seen

For privacy reasons, to carry out security checks, or to prevent at all costs the access of those who are not allowed to enter a restricted area.

For these reasons, or for those who install one of the devices from the German company Perimeter Protection Group, the manufacturer guarantees that the vehicle attempting to cross the established limits will be stopped, no matter what.

The extreme nature of these deterrent elements may catch your attention but, when it comes to guaranteeing security, there seem to be no limits, and these vehicle detection barriers are the most radical we have seen in a long time.

Designed to stop any vehicle at all costs before it gains access to an enclosure, the examples we show go beyond simple pre-emptive pedestrian or vehicle detection slats, far beyond…

The most radical methods for stopping a vehicle: lifting barrier

And, although they may not look like it, cylindrical barriers can be as simple as they are effective when it comes to stopping rolling threats. The Barrier Lift System device is capable of radically stopping a 80 km/h, 7.5-tonne truck that tries to overcome it… without success.

The most radical methods for stopping a vehicle: fixed bollards

At first glance, a bollard may intimidate more than a simple hollow cylinder barrier made of a material such as fiberglass that could hardly withstand the impact of the wind, but surely, the next time we find ourselves in front of bollards like the M50 model, we will understand that they are something more than a deterrent measure.

The most radical methods for stopping a vehicle: sliding gate

And when a horizontal barrier is insufficient, sliding gates with bars not only prevent the entry of pedestrian intruders but also of those who try to do so, even using a truck to knock them down. An almost impossible task if you have the Tracked Gate M50 P1 model.

The most radical methods for stopping a vehicle: deployable wedges

But, of course, the most extreme are those that stop the vehicle on the spot as it tries to enter the enclosed area, protected with devices such as the Wedge Barrier K12 wedge.

In a matter of tenths of a second, this barrier hidden beneath the pavement is capable of completely stopping a truck traveling at a speed of over 80 km/h, even causing the loss of the tractor cab.

The wedge takes 3.5 seconds to deploy, the same time it takes to retract. This makes it easy to open the barrier so that it either preventively stops an approaching vehicle or lets it pass when it is not intended to stop. Likewise, its retraction is quick and vehicles can drive over the platform that covers it as if it were a metal plate.

A similar device is the Road Blocker DSP K12. In this case, the test is also carried out with a truck traveling at more than 80 km/h, but whose mass is set at 7.5 tonnes. The result is as spectacular and similar as that of the Wedge Barrier K12.

All these security devices are more deterrent at first sight but, in any case, they guarantee the stopping of the vehicle attempting to access an area without authorization.
