From autumn onwards, the DGT will begin using noise radars

Noise radars will start operating in Spain from next autumn. These devices have a 360º camera and four microphones.

As you probably know, the Directorate-General for Traffic is deeply involved in this summer’s departure operations, aimed at preventing as many accidents as possible on Spanish roads. Starting this autumn, the DGT will begin using noise radars. This measure will not only be carried out by officers; local councils will also take action. Noise radars could start operating and issuing fines in Spain sooner than you think.

This new measuring system, which will arrive in Spain next autumn, will aim to analyse sounds on the different Spanish roads. Switzerland and France have already had this type of device for some months. Thanks to noise radars, the Directorate-General for Traffic will be able to identify the type of noise and the decibels in order to penalise the vehicle in question.

Noise radars: the fine you could receive from autumn

The DGT’s new noise radars incorporate a 360º camera and up to four microphones. Likewise, when the vehicle passes the radar, the camera will capture the number plate and, if it is detected that the established limits are exceeded, a fine will be applied. The aim of this new type of radar is to “watch over the wellbeing of citizens”. Vehicles driving with excessive revs or even with modified and non-approved exhaust systems could receive a penalty at their homes.

According to the World Health Organization, “prolonged exposure to noise could lead to anxiety, hearing loss, stress and even depression“. To prevent these kinds of illnesses from spreading in our cities, both the Directorate-General for Traffic and local councils are taking measures.

Noise radars will help promote rest in homes, and according to the WHO, the World Health Organization, noise disturbances can already affect more than 113 million people on the European continent. From autumn, noise radars could start operating in Spain with the aim of improving citizens’ health.
