Geely E2: first official images of the small electric car coming to Spain after causing a sensation in China

Geely is preparing the arrival in Europe of the E2, a city car that in China has already become one of the great commercial phenomena of the market. These are the first official images of the European version.

Geely continues to push forward in its European offensive. After the brand’s landing in markets such as Spain with an initial range focused on electrified models, which already includes two SUVs, the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid and the Geely E5 100% electric, the next move could be very interesting for those looking for an urban electric car that is practical and reasonably priced: the new Geely E2.

For now there is no press release with the technical data of the European version, but we do have something important: the first official images of the model that will reach our market. And, given what this car has already achieved in China, it is worth paying attention.

There it is sold as Geely Xingyuan, while in other international markets it is also known as Geely EX2. In Europe, everything points to it adopting the name E2, following the brand’s strategy to organise its electric range. And although we will still have to wait to learn the final specifications, price, equipment and launch date, the technical base already lets us form a fairly accurate idea of what it can offer.

A small electric car on the outside, but not so small on the inside

At first glance, the Geely E2 plays the card of an affordable urban electric car. The Chinese version measures 4.13 metres long, 1.80 metres wide and 1.57 metres high, with a wheelbase of 2.65 metres. In other words, it sits in that increasingly interesting zone of the electric market: very compact cars that are easy to use in the city, yet with enough space to consider daily journeys, weekend getaways and reasonable family use.

The first official images reveal a car with a simple, clean and “friendly” design. We do not see an overloaded bodywork with forced solutions. The front opts for soft lines, rounded headlights and a approachable look, which fits well with the type of customer this model is aimed at. The five-door body has neither the proportions nor the styling of an SUV; it looks more like a compact MPV, with a high roofline and a long wheelbase for its external size. This should favour interior space, one of the key points in small electric cars that want to be more than just a second car for the city.

The rear keeps the same philosophy: horizontal tail lights, rounded shapes and a modern appearance without excess. It is a design that does not seek to impress through muscle, but to convey simplicity, efficiency and ease of use. And that, for Europe, can be a virtue. In a market where many electric cars have risen in price, size and complexity, a car of this kind can fit very well if Geely manages to get the pricing right. The first images show a unit with a two-tone finish, with the roof painted black, contrasting with the bodywork and matching the wheel arch protections.

What we know about the Chinese version and what we can expect from the European E2

Although the European specifications are not yet confirmed, the Geely Xingyuan sold in China serves as a reference. There it has been offered with two main battery and motor configurations. The entry version uses an LFP battery of 30 kWh, paired with an electric motor of 58 kW, equivalent to around 78 CV. The range homologated under the Chinese CLTC cycle is 310 kilometres. Above it there is a variant with a 40 kWh battery, a 85 kW motor (around 116 CV) and a CLTC range of 410 kilometres. The most recent evolution of the model in China, where the Xingyuan has been sold since late 2024, has added versions with up to 480 kilometres CLTC, although we will have to see whether that configuration ends up reaching Europe.

Si Geely ajusta precio, autonomía y equipamiento, el E2 puede convertirse en una de sus propuestas más interesantes para Europa.

It is worth remembering that the Chinese CLTC cycle is more optimistic than the European WLTP. Therefore, if Geely offers in Europe versions equivalent to the Chinese ones in terms of battery capacity, the homologated ranges here will likely be lower. Even so, a battery around 40 kWh could place the E2 in a very reasonable zone for an urban and suburban electric car.

If the brand keeps a configuration close to the Chinese version, the E2 could move within a range sufficient to compete with models such as the Citroën ë-C3, the BYD Dolphin, the Renault 5 E-Tech or even some entry versions of the MG4, depending on price, battery and equipment.

The key will not lie only in the range figure. Charging speed, real-world efficiency, motorway consumption and standard equipment will also matter. In China, the model has already improved its fast-charging times, and the international page for the EX2 mentions a liquid-cooled battery and charging from 30 to 80 % in 25 minutes.

A sales success in China

The great selling point of the Geely E2 is not only its size or its battery. It lies in what it has already shown in China. The Xingyuan has become one of the best-selling compact electric models in the country and one of the main drivers of Geely’s recent growth. In barely a year on the market it surpassed 400,000 units sold, and in 2025 it reached retail sales of more than 465,000 units.

These are enormous figures even for the Chinese market, where competition in small electric cars is fierce. There it faces popular models such as the BYD Seagull (the European Dolphin Surf) and the BYD Dolphin, two true benchmarks in the affordable electric segment. That a new model has managed to carve out a place in that battle says a lot about its positioning: a competitive price, a practical size, sufficient technology and a friendly image seem to have been the keys to its success.

El diseño del E2 apuesta por líneas suaves y una imagen más práctica que agresiva.

The imminent arrival of the Geely E2 in Europe comes at a particularly interesting moment. The European market needs affordable electric cars, but not necessarily basic ones. Over recent years, much of the electric offering has concentrated on compact SUVs, saloons of a certain size and mid-to-high-priced models. But the buyer looking for an urban electric car below those budgets that offers modern technology, reasonable range and a usable interior still does not have as many options as it should. And that is where the E2 could find its space.

A small electric car that could make a lot of noise

Pending official confirmation of its European data, the Geely E2 already has something going for it: it arrives with a powerful commercial track record behind it. It is the European adaptation of a car that has already performed very well in one of the toughest electric markets in the world. The first official images show a simple, modern model with a practical focus. Exactly what many European drivers expect from a small electric car: that it does not try to look more expensive than it is, that it does not complicate what is simple, and that it offers a real alternative for everyday use.

If Geely manages to bring it with a reasonable range, competitive fast charging and an affordable price, the E2 could become one of the brand’s most interesting launches in Europe. Not because it is the most eye-catching electric car, but for something much more important: because it could be one of the most logical, one of those “smart buys”.
