Zoox introduces some last-minute improvements to its robotaxi before starting series production

Zoox is reinforcing its commitment to offering an autonomous mobility service that is more human, comfortable and different from the other options currently on the market.

After a period in which passengers have been providing feedback to the company, sharing their opinions and experiences while using the service in trials, Zoox has just presented an updated version of its robotaxi, which is the one that will go into series production.

Although the overall design of the four-seat vehicle, with facing seats, remains faithful to the original concept, Zoox has introduced numerous specific adjustments aimed at improving the customer experience. Among the new features, the optimised and repositioned reflectors stand out; they now change colour to clearly indicate the front and rear of the vehicle, improving safety and understanding for pedestrians and other road users.

Attention to detail makes the difference

Likewise, the interior has a new speaker and microphone on the door interface, along with an improved two-way audio system that makes communication with Zoox’s control centre easier. In addition, the cabin now features a brighter, more serene colour palette, with aloe green seats, stone grey flooring and matching details. This simplified and harmonious design seeks to reduce visual distractions, allowing passengers to relax during the journey.

Other practical refinements include an improved wireless charging pad, more functional cup holders and a redesigned floor that makes it easier to locate and avoid forgetting items such as handbags or mobile phones.

“The updates we have made in this iteration of our robotaxi continue to set the Zoox experience apart from anything else available today. The simplicity of the elevated interior does not demand the passenger’s attention as so many features of conventional cars do. Instead, occupants can simply relax and enjoy the space while travelling around the city.”

Zoox began its autonomous transport operations in Las Vegas in September 2025 and expanded to San Francisco in November. The company’s vehicle, built from scratch without a steering wheel, pedals or driver’s seat, is about to enter series production. To do so, it has a 20,000-square-metre plant in Hayward, California, which was inaugurated a year ago and has so far been dedicated to pre-production and process optimisation.

Zoox plans to gradually increase production until it reaches 100 units per week – around 5,000 a year – although the plant’s capacity could reach 10,000 vehicles per year. The service’s expansion already has upcoming stops in Austin and Miami, while testing is under way in six other cities: Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle and Washington D.C.
