General Motors recalls 15,000 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs in the United States

The problem identified by General Motors engineers affects the power-folding system of the third-row seats in this luxury SUV.

General Motors has announced a recall in the United States affecting approximately 15,000 units of the Cadillac Vistiq, its luxury electric SUV. The company has also temporarily suspended shipments of new vehicles while it resolves this issue.

General Motors engineers have identified a problem with the third-row seats featuring the power-folding mechanism. According to documentation submitted to the NHTSA, the U.S. road safety agency, there is a risk that a person, especially a child, could become trapped by the seatback as it folds. The system might fail to detect the obstruction and continue its movement, preventing the seatback from automatically returning.

The recall affects 13,629 units of the 2026 model year and another 911 of the 2027 model year, and it is estimated that all vehicles produced have this defect.

When was this problem discovered?

The alert dates back to March 31, 2026, when a GM engineer reported the fault after an internal test. During the evaluation, a box weighing between 15 and 18 kilograms became trapped in the rear seat: the seatback kept folding and stopped in a position that prevented its removal without manual intervention. In addition to this case, GM is aware of six other related incidents or complaints, although none has resulted in injuries.

Starting August 3, owners of the affected vehicles will receive official notification. Until the permanent solution is available, dealers will have to disable the power-folding function of the third row. Once the seat module has been replaced, the system should operate correctly and return to the upright position if it detects sufficient resistance.

This recall is yet another example of the challenges manufacturers still face in developing complex electrical systems in next-generation vehicles, especially in comfort and safety components such as seats. GM recommends that owners of a Cadillac Vistiq avoid using the power-folding function of the third row until the repair has been completed.
