The guys at Hyundai couldn’t be happier, given how their newly launched luxury brand, Genesis, is performing.

Just a few weeks ago we announced the launch of a new brand from the Hyundai Group, and today we already know that more than 4,300 people have reserved a unit of its first model, the G90.

Hyundai has planned a strategy for Genesis similar to that of other brands in the automotive market. Until now, the Genesis was only one model in the range, a model with a predominantly premium approach, whether in its saloon or coupé version. In fact, in markets such as North America, it has enjoyed considerable success.

However, the Korean giant has decided to take a step forward, creating a completely new brand, in the style of what firms such as Toyota with Lexus, Nissan with Infiniti and Honda with Acura did in their time. Without doubt, a firm and decisive bet for a brand like Hyundai which, for now, does not have a great track record in the luxury segment.

As we already mentioned at the time, Genesis will initially launch with the G90 model, although it will gradually be expanded with new models in both saloon and coupé formats. The inclusion of a model with an SUV body, so fashionable these days, is not ruled out either.

This large number of orders is a record for the brand, since if we look at its predecessors, in 2009, the year the Equus was launched, 1,138 reservations were registered, while in 2013 the Hyundai Genesis registered 3,300 orders. The G90 thus becomes one of the most successful launches in the history of the Korean manufacturer.

The G90 will be offered with three engines, all petrol. The first will be a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6 with 330 CV, as well as a new 3.3 V6 twin-turbo with 370 CV. At the top of the range we will find a 5.0 V8 with 425 CV. All will have optional all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
