GSe, the new sub-brand of Opel focused on electric performance cars
The iconic GSe initials are reborn to name the new sub-brand of Opel that will bring together the most dynamic electric sports cars of the brand

Going back roughly 50 years, the initials GSe stood for “Grand Sport Einspritzung” (Grand Sport Injection), and could be found on models such as the legendary Commodore GS/E or the Monza GSE. These initials are now back in the spotlight, though with a very different purpose: they will name the new sub-brand of Opel focused on highly dynamic electric sports cars.
Opel’s plans to offer an electrified version of every model by 2024 and to become a fully electric brand in Europe by 2028 are the key reason for creating this sub-brand which, as announced by Opel CEO Florian Huettl, will stand for “Grand Sport electric” and will be synonymous with vehicles that are dynamic and fun to drive thanks to extensive chassis tuning.

Sporty, exciting and versatile
Opel has also placed great emphasis on the highway capability of its future electric sports cars, combined with the possibility of zero-emission mobility, redefining what the brand calls the Zeitgeist of performance.
As we saw roughly a little over a year ago, the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD was the first model to be part of what these initials represent, retaining the DNA of the original 1970 Manta A while adopting the brand’s new design elements such as the Opel Vizor, its fully digitalised interior and its modern wheels.

A wide range of electrified options
Today, Opel already offers a wide variety of electrified models and technologies, from plug-in hybrids such as the Grandland and the Astra, to fully electric models such as the Corsa-e, the Zafira-e Life, the Combo-e Cargo or the large Movano-e, among others, as a total of 12 models can be chosen in all.
