Homemade replica of the Audi TT

Personally, a well-made replica can even look nice and be quaint, but when the replica looks like anything but the model it’s meant to imitate, things change. An example of the latter is the curious replica of a Audi TT being auctioned on eBay for £2,750 (about 3,100 euros at the current exchange rate).
One thing is undeniable: the work done to turn a Banham X21 into a Audi TT. The base model may not sound like much; it’s a small British roadster based on the Austin Metro. Moreover, the Audi’s 1.8 T engine is very expensive to maintain, and the 1.3-litre engine in the replica is undoubtedly cheaper.
We also don’t know how the British Audi TT will perform, but considering that the base car dates from 1992 plus the modifications it has on top, I think it’s a good question to ask.
