How does the world's most power-dense electric motor work?
The world’s most power-dense electric motor is called Ampere and is capable of delivering up to 295 CV of power.

The world’s most power-dense electric motor belongs to a company called Equipmake, based in Norfolk, UK. This power unit is capable of delivering up to 295 CV and weighs less than 10 kilograms.
Its creators, the company Equipmake, is developing what it calls “the most power-dense permanent magnet electric motor in the world”. With these figures, we believe it could mark a before and after in the electric car market, and such high power with so little weight could be a solution to the problems faced by many car manufacturers.

This curious electric powertrain is designed in collaboration with the 3D printing specialist Hieta. The so-called Ampere weighs less than 10 kg yet delivers a maximum power of 295 CV. For reference, the two electric motors of the Jaguar I-Pace weigh around 40 kg each and produce 197 CV.
Given these figures, it can be seen that using this motor would notably reduce the weight of electric cars.

Ampere, that is the name of the world’s most power-dense electric motor
The Ampere is capable of delivering up to 30 CV per kilogram, which gives it a better power density rating than any conventional electric motor currently on sale.
The lightness of the powertrain is mainly due to the minimal use of metal in its construction, and an innovative 3D-printed housing that is as thin as possible. An additional benefit of this construction method is improved thermal efficiency, meaning the motor can spin faster for longer without overheating.
Despite its impressive performance, the Ampere will have a relatively low starting price, given its lightweight resource-efficient construction. The motor’s development has been funded by the UK government’s Innovate UK programme, which provides financial support to sustainable projects developed within the United Kingdom.

Although there is no official market launch date yet, developers are already working on different prototypes so that they can reach users within the next twelve months. Would you buy an electric car powered by this tiny electric motor?
It is important to note that the developer company, Equipmake, already has more than twenty years in the sector. “Equipmake is not only a leader in ultra-high-performance electric motors, but also completes EV drivetrains and ultra-fast power electronics systems. In addition to developing patented technology, such as an ultra-compact, lightweight, high-performance radial motor, we also offer industry-leading EV consulting.”
Drawing on this experience, Equipmake “has developed a range of products for use in a wide variety of projects, including an electric bus and the upcoming high-performance, extended-range electric sports car from Ariel’s supercar”.
