Hyundai and Kia agree on a development strategy for alternative vehicles

Hyundai and Kia -an inseparable duo by now- are increasingly powerful within the fabric of this fascinating automotive world. And all the glamour of being part of the group of brands that are doing reasonably well comes at a price: more development required for new models and greater responsibilities toward those who trust both brands.

Both Korean brands have agreed on a division of development and production, in line with a new strategy that has become known through some newspapers in Korea. From now on, Hyundai will develop the hybrid and fuel cell vehicles, while Kia will be the champion of electric vehicles.

So, with this new strategy, there will be Hyundai and Kia models that will either be discontinued or be swapped between one brand and the other. After all, what a CEO of Hyundai had said about not jumping fully into the world of electric vehicles now makes sense.

In recent times, Hyundai’s preferred vehicles have been hybrids -such as the Sonata Hybrid– or hydrogen vehicles, with the Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle. For its part, Kia has the Naimo or the Optima Hybrid, which could easily become a one hundred percent electric vehicle.
