Hyundai goes further with the blind spot monitor debuting on the Santa Fe

Hyundai continues to advance at a fast pace with the latest technology, which has given the Santa Fe an innovative blind spot monitor.

Technology is delivering advances that are not only a great help in everyday life, but also provide greater safety. Hyundai demonstrates this with the Santa Fe, one of its longest-running models, which has just received an update that will be of vital importance on the road. It is an innovative blind spot monitor, which gives us a clear and concise view of what is happening in those areas we cannot see when we are behind the wheel, and therefore they become a potentially dangerous situation.

In this latest generation, the Korean SUV has been awarded by Euro NCAP and SAFETYBEST, two bodies that have rated its level of safety with the highest score. However, Hyundai still has plenty of room for improvement, which is why it has decided to go further and develop this new technology, which will gradually be applied across the rest of the brand’s lineup.

First came the Nexo, and now it is the turn of the Santa Fe, one of Hyundai’s best-selling models. Thanks to this monitor, the brand’s SUV will show at all times those blind spots that can cause an accident when no prior contact has been established. However, thanks to this new technology, we can clearly identify everything ahead of us, whether other vehicles or pedestrians.

It is true that we have recently been witnessing how camera mirrors are reaching the market, a clear example being the Audi e-tron or the upcoming Honda e. But Hyundai has wanted to follow its own path, one that calls for a system that is not so eye-catching at first sight, but that may prove more effective.

“With the incorporation of this technology, the New Generation Santa Fe is fully focused on the well-being and safety of its customers,” says Andreas Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe HQ. “The fourth generation of our flagship SUV offers one of the best safety packages in its class.”

This is because the brand keeps its traditional exterior mirrors intact and simply adds wide-angle view monitors capable of covering a larger field of vision. These activate when the driver operates either of the indicators, with the aim of offering the safest possible manoeuvre regardless of the circumstances. The image is projected onto the instrument cluster itself and, once the manoeuvre is complete, it disappears to make way again for the relevant information.

Hyundai is closing the gap with its European competitors not only with a new wave of genuinely attractive vehicles offering excellent value for money, but also with technology that has nothing to envy from the competition. In this way, the more affordable models will gradually inherit these new systems capable of preventing an accident from taking place.
