The Hyundai i30 continues to grow with a new variant called Fastback, in which the bodywork adopts a coupé style, as well as a sportier character

It may have gone unnoticed, because its bigger brother, the Hyundai i30 N, has overshadowed any other announcement from the South Korean brand, but almost at the same time Hyundai has announced the arrival of another variant for the i30 family, yes, yet another one. This time it is the i30 Fastback version, a very interesting proposal in which the bodywork of the Hyundai i30 adopts a coupé style.

Taking a brief look back, the Hyundai i30 family began to be renewed at the end of 2016 with the i30 with standard bodywork, which was followed by the more practical version called the i30 CW. Later, as you already know, these days the more radical i30 version has just been presented, which takes the N designation and, now, Hyundai is giving the i30 one more twist with a coupé concept version that they have named Fastback.

Its front styling changes slightly and it keeps a design somewhere between the standard i30 and the N version. In the Fastback, the height of the characteristic cascade grille has been reduced, so the bonnet gains a greater presence. At the bottom, the bumper receives a new air intake, below the grille, which joins at the ends with the recesses housing the daytime running lights, with a new design, by the way.

Moving towards the rear, the Hyundai i30 Fastback shows the silhouette of an elegant 5-door coupé, in which the roof has been lowered by 25 millimetres compared with the basic 5-door i30. At the rear, a rear spoiler is accentuated at the edge of the bodywork so that it integrates into the tailgate itself, while the bumper features a new design in its lowest part.

The character of the i30 Fastback is intended to be sportier than the basic i30, an intermediate step before the i30 N version, and in this way it presents several differences from the 5-door version. The chassis of the Hyundai i30 Fastback shas been lowered by 5 mm, while the suspension is 15% stiffer to offer sportier driving while maintaining a high degree of comfort. The overall height of the i30 Fastback has been reduced by 30 mm, so it is set at 1,425 mm.

In terms of equipment, we find nothing we were not already familiar with from its siblings. In terms of safety, there are features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Information or High Beam Assist, among others. The infotainment system is handled by a 5-inch touchscreen as standard, with an 8-inch option, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and also includes a 7-year subscription to LIVE Services.

Mechanically, the Hyundai i30 Fastback will be available with two petrol engines. On the one hand we have the 1.0 T-GDI with 120 CV paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the second option is the 1.4 T-GDI with 140 CV, which can be chosen with the 6-speed manual gearbox or the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
