Hyundai will guide the design of its future models towards a new design based on a new concept presented in Geneva: the Le Fil Rouge

Over the last while, especially in the past year, we have all seen the leap in quality made by the main Asian brands. Vehicles such as the Kia Stinger or the Mazda6 perfectly represent this shift towards more European tastes, while also challenging European premium manufacturers with prices that are more affordable than all of them. Now Hyundai will also try to offer an even more attractive design, and we are shown this new language at the Geneva Motor Show under the “Le Fil Rouge” concept.

Le Fil Rouge, which translates as “common thread”, reflects the union of the past, present and future designs of Hyundai, brought together under the Sensuous Sportiness theme that will be expressed in its future models, both saloons and SUVs. With this new design language, Hyundai aims to deliver beauty, together with emotional value and desire, a design that is also underpinned by four fundamental pillars of harmony: proportion, architecture, design and technology.

The four pillars of the Hyundai Le Fil Rouge

You have probably heard of the golden ratio at some point, an irrational number found in geometric figures and in nature, commonly associated with perfect proportions. The forms of the Le Fil Rouge concept are based on the golden ratio, achieved through a long wheelbase, large wheels and short overhangs, together with a long bonnet that allows for greater distance between the wheel and the front windscreen.

The Le Fil Rouge concept also applies what they have called Light Architecture, which aims to create the sensation that the car has been created from a single line, making the front and rear pillars and the roof blend into the rest of the concept‘s silhouette. If we carry this architecture into the interior, we find a spacious and comfortable environment for all occupants, yet one that differentiates between them: the driver’s position is designed to increase driving enjoyment, while the rest of the cabin focuses on maximising comfort.

The third of the pillars I listed is design, or style. All brands want their models to be recognised at a glance, even from a distance, which means their design must be distinctive and personal. To achieve this they have applied a series of concave and convex lines along the side, with the aim of achieving a unique image, complemented by its long bonnet and its three-dimensionally treated waterfall-style grille.

Finally, there is technology, which, as with any good concept, is pushed to its limits. The Le Fil Rouge features an overall design that, beyond aesthetics, is also aerodynamic, taking inspiration from aeronautics. Inside, high-quality materials combine to create a sense of refinement and spaciousness, alongside high-tech elements such as the panoramic touchscreen with sensory touch technology Haptic, through which access to the vehicle’s various functions is provided.
