Cupra UrbanRebel Electric Cars Compact
Is the CUPRA Raval the small electric car that will arrive from the brand?
The compact UrbanRebel, the electric car that will arrive from the Barcelona brand, could be called Raval, in honour of the city’s legendary neighbourhood, according to a slip-up.

The names of brands’ future models are usually shrouded in the most tightly guarded of secrets. They are rarely disclosed before the planned time and are jealously kept under wraps. But sometimes, someone accidentally lets slip the name of that particular model, and without meaning to, they give information about it without even realising. This is what appears to have happened with the production model based on the CUPRA UrbanRebel.
This concept model arrived a few years ago and represented the brand’s intention to launch an efficient urban model with the strength that represents the brand, on the same level as the rest of its vehicles. There was already one of these electric models scheduled, the Born, but this model was meant to offer a spicier touch.

A slip-up reveals the name of the new model
But it was already clear that the UrbanRebel would remain a concept model name and would not be the definitive name for the car. The name by which it would be known had not yet been revealed, although several names the brand had registered for future projects had leaked. One of them was “Raval“, so it was already known that Barcelona’s neighbourhoods would be present in CUPRA’s lineup.
It was Wayne Griffiths, CEO of SEAT and CUPRA, who made a slip-up in an interview given to an Australian media outlet, where he let slip that the brand’s next electric vehicle would be the Raval, when comparing it with the Born.
Once the name was out, the executive tried not to attach further importance to the fact, although he did not repeat the name. In the interview, however, he did offer some further hints about what can be expected from this new compact electric model. According to Griffiths, what matters is the sense of driving enjoyment behind the wheel, so it is possible that it will feature four-wheel drive. That said, according to the CEO of both brands, this possibility is difficult to achieve with the MEB platform.
More clues about the Raval
This slip-up was not the only one committed by CUPRA. The name also crept into the music video presented by singer Rosalía for the song “Abcefg“. In this song, the singer offers a word for each letter. When she reaches “R”, the word chosen is “Raval“, while for “T” the word is Tavascan. So everything seems to indicate that the slip-up is indeed reliable and that we will soon welcome the CUPRA Raval.
