Isuzu D-Max XTR: with you to the end of the world

The Isuzu D-Max XTR is a special version of the pick-up from the Japanese brand, with a much more aggressive look and high-level interior finishes.

The pick-up segment has never been very popular in our market. These are vehicles for a very specific need, such as work requirements.

However, these vehicles have always had a very eye-catching look, with a very powerful image that means the limits are set by whoever is driving. This segment has evolved in a fleeting manner in recent years, so they have little in common with those we found on the market 20 years ago. We already tested the Mercedes Mercedes-Benz X-Class and it made this evolution clear.

A pick-up, yes, but without giving up luxury or comfort

They have stopped being so uncomfortable, so we will no longer be lifting off the seat every time we go over a speed bump. Furthermore, both their styling and their equipment are increasingly similar to what we find in a conventional car.

Well, the pick-up we bring you today is one of those “rocker” vehicles we would buy simply because it looks cool: it is the Isuzu D-Max XTR. This attractive model was presented at the Birmingham Commercial Vehicle Show and has been developed by Isuzu for those who need a more radical version of its pick-up.

The Isuzu D-Max XTR is much more aggressive

The first thing that catches the eye are the imposing plastic protections on the front, its widened wheel arches and the specific side steps. This last element may look very good aesthetically, but it has been well proven that it becomes an obstacle when getting into the vehicle, and it also dirties our trousers every time we get out.

In addition, Isuzu has fitted a small spoiler at the rear of the cab and black mirror housings, elements that give it a much more aggressive personality.

The Japanese manufacturer has sprinkled green details throughout the vehicle, so they can be seen on various parts of the bodywork and on the large suspension springs. In addition, Isuzu offers four different colours for its pick-up: Splash White, Titanium Silver, Obsidian Grey and Cosmic Black.

The interior has also been modified

Furthermore, the interior of the Isuzu D-Max XTR has also been thoroughly reworked. When opening the cabin doors, we find seats upholstered in black leather and Alcantara, detailed with green contrast stitching.

We can also find XTR logos embroidered on them and interior trim in a material that imitates carbon fibre. To crown this attractive interior, Isuzu has fitted a steering wheel with a flattened lower section, trimmed in Alcantara and leather, with stitching also in the same green as the seats.

The Isuzu D-Max XTR does not only have cosmetic changes

However, the Isuzu D-Max XTR is not just looks; the brand has also reworked some aspects so that it is more capable than its conventional sibling. For this reason, it features a suspension signed by specialist Pedders, which raises the pick-up’s ground clearance by 250 mm compared with the standard version.

In case all this were not enough, it fits 17-inch wheels shod with tremendous Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain tyres in 265/70 R17 size. Behind them, Isuzu has fitted a new braking system with grooved discs on the front axle, complemented by green brake calipers.

Where there are no changes compared with the version we already know is under the bonnet. The Isuzu D-Max XTR uses the 1.9 turbodiesel engine, of course paired with four-wheel drive and either manual or automatic gearboxes. Its starting price is £33,999 (39,530 euros) on the British market and, it seems, this version is reserved for customers in Great Britain, so we doubt we will see any of these brutal pick-ups in our country.
