It's official! The new Renault Megane RS will be unveiled in the autumn with 300 CV

The Renault Megane RS could be officially presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and could feature a four-wheel-drive system

Today’s the day: Renault has confirmed that the new Megane RS will reach the market this very year. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser image showing the compact sports car camouflaged under tarpaulins. The French manufacturer has announced that the new model will have 300 CV of power.

Everything points to the official presentation of the new Megane RS taking place next September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but before that, it could be unveiled during the Monaco Grand Prix (late May) at the Révélation Renault Sport event the French brand has organised for the Formula 1 street race. Either way, it is not expected to go on sale until early 2018.

It is difficult to estimate the design changes the new Megane RS will receive, especially considering that the image published by Renault features full camouflage. However, the lighting of the front headlights hints at the incorporation of LED technology, as well as the typical fog lights of the Renault Clio RS 16. The new compact sports car could also feature a double central exhaust, according to spy images gathered by other media.

Thanks to the good tuning of its chassis, the Megane RS is one of the most efficient compact sports cars on track. To date, the front-wheel-drive vehicle that has completed a lap of the Nürburgring the fastest is the Volkswagen Golf Clubsport S; we will see what the new Megane RS has to say about that. According to the head of Renault Sport, Patrice Ratti, “the current Megane RS is quicker through the corners than its German rival, but it lacks power on the straights”, something the next generation of the French compact sports car will probably not lack: it will have at least 300 CV of power.

The new Megane RS could feature a four-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring, just like the Ford Focus RS.
