J50, Ferrari's tribute to 50 years in Japan

Ferrari has once again surprised us with a spectacular model called the Ferrari J50, based on the 488 Spider. It will be built as a strictly limited edition of just 10 units, commemorating 50 years of the Italian brand on Japanese soil.

It has now been 50 years since Ferrari laid its first stone in the “land of the rising sun”, a special place for the house of Maranello because of the support they have received there and the sales figures they have achieved, which in times of crisis have come in very handy. To return all this gratitude, they have created the Ferrari J50, a beautiful convertible that will arrive as a strictly limited edition.

Looking at the images of the Ferrari J50, the first word that comes to mind is spectacular. The design created by Ferrari Styling Centre makes each of its parts remind us of iconic Ferrari models. Perhaps the most striking feature is its targa-style convertible bodywork, inspired by the competition barchettas of the 1950s, which can be covered by a two-piece carbon fibre hardtop that can be stored behind the seats. Its lines also draw reference from other legendary models such as the GTO, the F40 and the F50.

But behind this exercise in futuristic design with retro flair lies the latest in technology and aerodynamics, as can be seen with just a glance at its front end, where the radiators have even been repositioned to improve airflow. The windscreen, not only for aesthetic reasons, is placed in a lower position and is shorter to minimise wind resistance as much as possible.

The lines continue to flow smoothly to the muscular and imposing rear end, where we find a four-lamp light cluster with LED technology, just like the front headlights. At the lowest part sits the diffuser with two enormous exhaust outlets. The whole ensemble is rounded off by huge 20-inch forged aluminium wheels.

Beneath all this imposing and beautiful design of the Ferrari J50 lies, visible through the polycarbonate, the engine bay housing the heart of a Ferrari 488 Spider, the vehicle it is based on. It therefore uses the same 3.9-litre V8, slightly revised to gain an increase of 20 CV, now producing 690 CV.

Inside, we find the same elements and design as the 488 Spider, where Alcantara, leather and carbon fibre dominate the space. In any case, Ferrari assures that the just 10 units to be built (yes, you read that right, only 10) can be personalised to the taste of their future customers. Customers who will need a bank account with several zeros to afford this genuine new jewel from Ferrari.
