Jaguar Land Rover could put all its effort into five new models that will help it recover from the poor results obtained.

Land Rover Defender 3

Jaguar Land Rover is counting on five key new models in development. It also expects them to secure its success in the long term, as some sources have already reported. The first of these five new models from Jaguar Land Rover is the next-generation Land Rover Defender, which is just around the corner and will be crucial for the brand.

Not because it will sell in extraordinary numbers, but because the iconic vehicle will replace and surpass the model it succeeds. The early signs are good and, when it arrives, Jaguar Land Rover will move forward with the launch of a series of other interesting products.

After the new Land Rover Defender, everything points to the British manufacturer betting on the successor, fully electric, to the Jaguar XJ. It will probably be offered with a range of plug-in hybrid powertrains later in the vehicle’s production.

Following the new electric Jaguar XJ, the big cat brand will launch the Jaguar J-Pace, a new SUV that will be much larger and more luxurious than the Jaguar F-Pace.

What are Jaguar Land Rover’s future plans?

A press release from the brand recently confirmed the existence of this model, and reports suggest that, like the Jaguar XJ, it will be available as a fully electric vehicle.

In Land Rover, a fifth member of the Range Rover family will launch at the end of 2021. This model, previously known as the Road Rover, will sit between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Velar and will be road-oriented. It is also expected to be sold as a fully electric vehicle, becoming the first electric Range Rover model.

The last model of Jaguar Land Rover on the cards for the coming years is a new-generation Range Rover. All the models mentioned will be based on the company’s flexible MLA architecture, which will help the company reduce development costs. It is important to note that Jaguar Land Rover is going through a difficult time and these various models could become its ‘saving grace’.

Jaguar Ipace

Jaguar Land Rover has embarked on a two-year programme of new vehicle launches and massive industrial investments designed to transform the company’s financial fortunes and place it in a stable long-term position. According to the company’s official documents, there will also be a fully electric Range Rover model and a fully electric Discovery model before 2025. However, there are no plans for a spin-off of the fully electric Defender. The internal combustion models sold under the three so-called ‘brand pillars’ of Land Rover: the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender, will only be available in mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms by 2025.

It can also be revealed that the MLA-based models will feature a new SOTA (software over the air) capability, with 14 ‘modules’ in the vehicle’s electrical architecture connected to the internet.

Jaguar Land Rover says the new SOTA setup will reduce warranty claims, help avoid some recalls, offer predictive servicing and even user-based insurance. Over-the-air feature updates are also being planned for the MLA models, as well as “in-vehicle rewards and payments”. The manufacturer expects to use data generated by real-world use of the new vehicles to also inform future model development.
