Jay Leno once again surprises us with a video in which he brings together the five most collectible Ferraris on a single circuit. The five modern classics are the Ferrari 288 GTO, the F40, the F50, the Enzo and the current La Ferrari. All of them are red and belong to one owner, David Lee. This American of Asian origin is one of the greatest enthusiasts of the “Cavallino” marque and one of the most important Ferrari collectors in the world.
Although David Lee bought the vehicles for pleasure and uses them regularly, we cannot overlook the incredible investment that his Ferrari collection represents. The Ferrari 288 GTO cost €77,000 in 1985 and is now valued at €783,000. For the F40, David Lee paid €361,000 in 1990, while if he sold it today he would get around €1.5 million. The 1995 F50, meanwhile, cost €434,000 and is now valued at €2.08 million. Finally, the Ferrari Enzo cost €596,000 in 2003; Lee would now get about €3.35 million for it.
In other words, over these years Lee has spent €2.86 million, but if he decided to sell all five models today he would receive €9.1 million. That is a net profit of €6.24 million. Naturally, the initial outlay (€2.86 million) for these five iconic Ferrari is prohibitive for most people, but collectors like David Lee highlight the huge sums that a privileged few reach through the purchase of luxury cars.
