KIA CV, everything we know about the electric SUV that will put Tesla against the ropes
KIA’s new electric SUV will arrive in 2022 and could put Tesla in a tight spot. Will it succeed?

The new KIA CV could arrive in 2022 and could put Tesla itself against the ropes. The new KIA electric SUV is progressing slowly but very surely. The brand itself has said this model is gaining momentum over other new electric models due to arrive in the coming years. For now its official name is unknown, but so far it is known as the KIA CV.
Spy photographers have already caught it on camera a few times, and according to those images it can be said to share some elements with the KIA Futuron. This concept debuted last year in China and at the Geneva Motor Show.

The carmaker is betting on a new, far more futuristic design language, and it is a clear statement of intent. These new design lines aim to emphasise sporty styling and elegance. This is combined with a fresh interpretation of the manufacturer’s ‘tiger nose’ grille. It is also worth noting that the KIA CV that could arrive in 2022 debuts a new wedge-shaped chassis.

KIA CV, will it make Tesla kneel before it?
The front of the new KIA electric SUV features full-width LED lighting, dynamic interior graphics and a large, sculpted cabin. The roof is joined by elegant darkened pillars that enhance the floating-roof effect. The waistline rises towards the rear, drawing attention to that area. The most dramatic view comes from behind. Its styling is dominated by ultra-slim LED taillights that frame the upper arch of the model, with an illuminated fin pattern.
Like the upcoming electric saloon, the KIA 45 CUV and the Hyundai Prophecy, the CV uses the carmaker’s Global Electric Modular Platform (E-GMP), which will also underpin several electric vehicles arriving at dealerships soon. While power and torque outputs are still unknown, the new electric model will have a driving range of up to 500 km and offer rapid DC charging in under 20 minutes. If the next Hyundai 45 BEV has anything to look forward to, expect a SK battery pack offering 75-100 kWh capacity, paired with a powerful dual-motor setup.

Although we have not yet seen the interior, the CV will offer a spacious design thanks to a flat floor. A large digital screen will combine the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay, WiFi connectivity and a surround-view monitor. Fully autonomous driving is still far off for the CV. However, from launch you can be sure that its driver-assistance technology will include autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic assist or lane-keeping assist, among others.

What does the KIA CV face?
The new KIA electric car will have many rivals when it reaches the market next year, although two models stand out immediately: the Tesla Model 3 and the Polestar 2. The latter in particular looks like one of the closest matchups at this point. Depending on prices, dimensions, specifications and market availability, other possible rivals include the Hyundai 45, the upcoming Toyota CUV, the Volkswagen ID.4 and possibly the Skoda Enyaq.
