The Korean brand Kia with its Kia Sportage model celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of this model, which has captivated millions of drivers and ranks above successful models such as the Kia XCeed or the Kia Stonic. This compact SUV, which debuted in 1993, has managed to sell more than 7 million units worldwide over five generations, earning its place as the best-selling Kia model since 2015.

In a range that offers petrol and diesel options with and without mild hybridisation, a conventional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, we have been able to test all the options and, for us, the Kia Sportage non-plug-in hybrid is the version with the best balance of performance, consumption and refinement. Even so, with competitors of the same calibre such as the Opel Grandland, the Skoda Karoq, the Hyundai Tucson or the Renault Arkana, this Kia model remains at the top of the sales ranking.

If we talk about design updates, we can see that they have added black contour lines in a glossy finish on the side windows and the spoiler, along with dark chrome decorative inserts on the front, rear and sides, giving it an elegant and exclusive look. The 30th Anniversary Edition will also include tinted windows, 19″ alloy wheels in gloss black and dark chrome underbody protectors. They have also added the option of a new colour, Wolf Grey, exclusive to this edition, complementing the existing shades Deluxe White, Cassa White and Experience Green, all with a black two-tone roof.

Inside, the seats have been upgraded: in this edition they are upholstered in suede and synthetic leather, have power adjustment for the front seats, seat and steering wheel heating, optional ambient lighting and a new exclusive interior colour pack called Midnight Green. As for technology and the infotainment system, it features two 12.3″ screens and smart key functions, which are added in this special edition.

A journey across five generations

The journey of the Kia Sportage across its five generations reflects constant evolution and a commitment to innovation. From its introduction in 1993 as a pioneering urban SUV to its fifth generation in 2021, the Sportage has continued to set the standard in design, quality and safety.

The first generation introduced a different approach by being a compact SUV that combined space and sportiness. The second generation, launched in 2004, stood out for its quality and safety, marking a shift towards a monocoque chassis. The third generation (2010) emphasised design with the iconic Tiger Nose grille. The fourth generation (2015) improved comfort and safety, proving and earning the Sportage its position as the best-selling car in Kia. The fifth generation (2021) grew in size and safety, adopting the “Opposites United” design philosophy and offering electric powertrain options.

The Kia Sportage, with its rich 30-year heritage, not only celebrates the past but also prepares to continue defining the future of compact SUVs with the 30th Anniversary Edition and an incredible range of powertrains.
