Lamborghini Urus: the brand's first plug-in hybrid

The brand has confirmed, through Muricio Reggiani, head of research and development at Lamborghini, that the new Lamborghini Urus will become the first plug-in hybrid in its range. In addition, it will be fitted with a turbo engine with enough power to move an SUV, in the same way the brand has accustomed us to in its supercar models.
The Lamborghini Urus will be one of the lightest models in its segment thanks to the carbon fibre in its bodywork. Although a fully electric version is not ruled out, the diesel version has been ruled out. According to him, it will be equipped with a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine and an electric drive unit, whose final output will reach 500 CV of power. All of this will be paired with an automatic transmission, which will send power to all four wheels. This makes it the only V8 engine the brand will fit in its models.
Going into more detail, it would have a transmission that, according to Lamborghini, would deliver the levels of torque essential for vehicles of these characteristics. The improvements being designed, according to the manager, will affect energy use, weight reduction and aerodynamic efficiency.

The intention of Lamborghini is to put on the market a vehicle that is a leader in low CO2 emissions, and the best way they found to achieve this is with a plug-in hybrid car, as other premium brands are doing.
It will also be one of the lightest models in its segment, thanks to the forged carbon fibre used to build its bodywork. The Lamborghini Urus could feature a fully electric version inherited from the Audi Q6 and Q7. Another important detail is that it will import an adaptive suspension system.
Aesthetically it will be a pure Lamborghini, with aggressive yet elegant shapes, achieving a vehicle with a distinguished look both outside and inside, in order to position itself as a segment leader in the medium term.
With the arrival of this first hybrid car, the brand has entered a market new to it, exploring the different technologies in the automotive sector: electrification and autonomous driving. The result will be a sporty vehicle, versatile on the road, very comfortable to drive and capable of performing successfully on a racetrack. A real challenge for a plug-in hybrid… or not. Lamborghini plans to launch its hybrid SUV on the market in 2018.
