LitrosxKilos joint operation by Suzuki: more than 3 tonnes for food banks

Once again, Suzuki has held its Litros x Kilos charity campaign, in which efficient driving with its range of models is converted into kilograms of food for the Food Banks

As is traditional at this time of year, Suzuki has held a new edition of its LitrosxKilos charity campaign. The invited journalists drove the Suzuki range with the aim of reducing the average WLTP homologated consumption on the combined cycle of each model over a real road route. The litres of fuel saved are converted into kilograms of basic food, which are donated to the Food Banks of Madrid.

The test featured every model in the Suzuki range, from the small Ignis, Swift and Swift Sport to the Swace, the new S-Cross, the Vitara and the Across. All of them have some form of electrification, whether a mild-hybrid system as in the small city cars and in the S-Cross and Vitara; a full self-charging hybrid like the Swace; or the Across plug-in hybrid.

More than a 30 per cent reduction on homologated consumption

The first figure to highlight is that the average saving achieved across the whole range on this occasion was 31% compared with their respective homologated figures, over a 57.7 km route on the outskirts of Madrid. Translated into kilograms, this amounted to a total of 3,184.5 kg of food. In total, across the six editions of this charity campaign held so far, Suzuki has donated 20.5 tonnes of food, which the Food Bank of Madrid distributes among charities to help those most in need.

As representative figures, the 5.4 l/100 km homologated consumption of the Suzuki Ignis 4×4 was reduced to 3.1 l/100 km, while the best absolute result went to the Suzuki Swift, which finished the test with an average consumption of 2.9 l/100 km, compared with the 4.7 l/100 km homologated. Reducing the 4.5 l/100 km of the hybrid Swace seemed harder, but the test concluded at 3.1 l/100 km, while in absolute terms the largest reductions in homologated consumption were for the S-Cross 4WD Hybrid and the Vitara 4WD Hybrid, at 3.7 and 4.4 l/100 km respectively (homologated figures: 5.9 and 6.3 l/100 km).
