Lotus receives €12.5 million from the British government

Lotus can, in part, take a breather from its pressing economic situation with the delivery of €12.5 million from the British government. These funds have come through a programme to revive industry and employment, which will allow the sports car maker to create new jobs and invest in developing new models.

Under the management of the infamous Dany Bahar for Lotus, aid had been requested from the English government a couple of years ago, but it is only now that the money has been released. Although the leadership of its Malaysian administrators is not as good as it seems, it has finally been deemed that the company is in a better position now than when it was under Bahar’s management.

This capital injection adds to the €118 million that DRB-HICOM has decided to invest in the company, as a reward for higher sales over the course of this year and a rebuilding of the company’s image after Bahar’s tumultuous departure; during the first months of 2012, they sold as many cars as in the whole of last year.

For the moment there are no plans for new models and, if you are wondering right now, the return of the Esprit is not on the cards either, having been carefully kept for a better occasion by the company. Besides creating new sources of employment, which is the commitment made to the English government, Lotus will devote itself to improving the current generation of its models with more technology and better competitiveness in production costs.
