Mansory Mercedes-AMG G63, the armoured SUV for the very adventurous

If you own a high-end vehicle, you might want it to be even more exclusive than it already is. So there’s nothing better than looking to a tuner that adds a little more spark to its configuration. And when we talk about reputable tuners, we have to talk about Mansory. A firm that wants to offer high-quality variants of brands such as Mercedes. From this brand it has taken the Mercedes AMG G63 and given it a makeover to turn it into something more special.

This week it has presented two new models based on the Mercedes-AMG G63, one of them in the Star Trooper two-door version. The other model we’ve seen is the armoured AMG-G63, which is the one we’re going to explore in this article. It is not only one of the most interesting off-roaders on the European market, but it also represents the first armoured model that Mansory manufactures.

From the most basic armour to the most efficient

The armour package that Mansory has fitted to the Mercedes AMG-G63 starts from the VPAM4 standard, which is aimed at customers who want some protection but for whom a very basic level is enough for personal safety. Protection goes up to the VPAM7 standard, which has more important characteristics and offers much more efficient protection.

It doesn’t matter which armour level the customer chooses, because the finishes included in Mansory’s modifications offer a kit to slightly widen the SUV’s body, with visible carbon fibre elements and other updates that enhance the powerful and formidable look of the car.

On the outside there are redesigned front bumpers, an air intake on the bonnet so the engine can breathe better, LED roof lights and protection in the form of sturdy bars in front of the radiator. Inside, the tuner offers several configurations so the buyer can choose to be even more comfortable surrounded by the luxury typical of this model.

But this increase in weight may take its toll on the capabilities of the Mercedes AMG G63, so Mansory has also worked on the engine and raised its performance. Buyers of this Mansory customisation can choose between the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 700 CV and 800 Nm of maximum torque, or the version with 800 CV and 1,050 Nm of maximum torque.

This first armoured vehicle made by Mansory does not intend to be the brand’s only one, as it believes there are many opportunities to enter the armoured vehicle market with force for buyers who do not want to give up the comfort and ease of high-end cars.
