Images of a test mule have leaked, revealing a more radical Lamborghini Huracán that could be called Huracán STO.

Lamborghini won a landmark battle against its main rivals with the arrival of the Aventador SVJ, the top rung of its most extravagant vehicle. However, the bull brand still had much more to say with the Huracán, a model that underwent a restyling and adopted the EVO suffix. After the renewal of the more “modest” bull, many expected a Performante variant, just as happened with the first Huracán, but it seems the Italian firm wanted to take things a step further and create an even more radical and extreme car.

And after seeing some leaks on Instagram, there is no doubt that one of the fastest supercars of the moment is on its way. The previous Huracán Performante was already quite an extravagance with its active aerodynamic system called ALA and its colossal 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 producing 620 CV. But things are going to go even further.

With the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, we realised that the Italian house was capable of far more advanced aerodynamic work. And now that a new Huracán STO -the supposed name for this variant- is on its way, the bull brand intends to leave us amazed once again with an ALA system more precise and ingenious than ever.

At first glance, we see a colossal rear wing that, in addition to having more prominent dimensions, is connected to an air intake. This leads us to assume that an internal system of flaps will take care of the car’s aerodynamics by allowing or blocking the airflow through its interior as needed. The diffuser and the front splitter, which now feature a more aggressive design, will perform the same task.

As for the mechanics, we expect the wonderful 5.2-litre V10, which is on the verge of extinction, to continue in use. Currently, this engine produces 620 CV in the standard Huracán, a figure that could rise to 650 CV. However, even though the difference in power is not overwhelming, the real highlight of the Huracán “STO” would be its weight, since this could be reduced by 150 kilos.

This is how Lamborghini intends to bring an end to a cycle that has marked a before and after in the brand’s history, thanks to a resounding success. For now we do not know launch dates for this Huracán variant but, if the coronavirus allows it, it could debut at the 2020 Paris Motor Show.
