Maserati presents the MCPura, the model that arrives to replace the MC20, although the changes compared to the latter will be minimal

As Santo Ficili, chief operating officer of Maserati, rightly says, “the brand is once again taking the place that belongs to it: at the very top and on its own turf”. And the thing is, if the MC20 was already born with some “little problem” of design, you can’t go experimenting with fizzy drinks: I mean the electric version of the MC20 called Folgore, which, as it proved to be a failure, very few people want an electric supercar, and even less one that carries the trident on its grille.

That is why Maserati has decided to return to the path it should never have abandoned and launch an evolution of the MC20, obviously with a combustion engine, which they have named MCPura and which has been presented in an unmatched setting such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an event that is also hosting other very interesting presentations.

Despite being an evolution of the MC20, we have to look very closely to discover the novelties in the new Maserati MCPura. In fact, the Italian brand drew inspiration for its design from the GT2 Stradale, modifying the lines of the MCPura at the front, the lower section of the bumper, to make it more aerodynamic than the MC20. At the rear, we see that the rear diffuser also undergoes modifications, especially in the channels located at the bottom, also inspired by the GT2 Stradale. Beyond that, it’s more of the same, except for an expanded color palette.

If we open the butterfly doors of the Maserati MCPura, we will experience the same as with its exterior: we will have to look closely to see what is new, but essentially the substantial changes focus on a new design for the steering wheel that is more sporty yet elegant, and it now makes extensive use of Alcantara leather for the upholstery, with laser treatment for the seats, along with carbon fiber inserts in the cabin. All of this is accompanied by the dose of technology provided by the digital instrument cluster and the Maserati Intelligent Assistant infotainment system.

Note that the Maserati MCPura will also have a convertible version, called Cielo with the suffix, as we are already accustomed to. Whoever opts for the MCPura Cielo will be able to open its electrically operated glass roof in less than 15 seconds with just the press of a button, and it can be done while driving as long as speed does not exceed 50 km/h. The particularity of this version is that the roof features PLDC electrochromic glass (polymer dispersed liquid crystal), able to switch from opaque to transparent instantly.

The crown jewel of the MCPura is already familiar to us: the 3,000 cc Nettuno V6 engine with an output of 630 CV and 730 Nm of torque, transmitted to the rear axle through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which, with a total weight of 1,500 kilograms, gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 2.33 kg/CV.
