McLaren 570S Design Edition, five new very special editions

For a few days now, McLaren has been keeping us on tenterhooks with its announcements. If you remember, last week we told you about the Woking firm’s intention to revive the spirit of the McLaren F1 with a new model arriving in 2019, of which we will know nothing until shortly before. Now they announce new very special editions with the McLaren 570S as the star.

And why do I say these are very special editions? Because the creators of these new editions are those who know every line, nook and cranny and personalisation option of the McLaren 570S inside out: their own designers. Five will be the number of special editions that will see the light of day shortly, although they do not reveal how many of each will be built.

For the moment we can only tell you about the unit illustrated in this article, which is called Design Edition 1. They did not rack their brains too much over the name, to be honest. What makes it special on the outside is the lovely Vermillion Red paint covering its bodywork, together with wheels with a five-spoke design. Behind them sit the huge brake calipers, also painted in bright red.

Inside we find a colour combination of red and black that matches the exterior colour perfectly. Carbon Black Alcantara and Apex Red Nappa leather come together on the seats, with more Jet Black and Apex Red Nappa leather on the upper and lower parts of the dashboard respectively, the same combination found on the steering wheel. All of this is finished off with Slate Grey contrast stitching.

As for how the other four versions look, we do not know; we will have to wait for McLaren to offer more images. What they do say is that these are based on the colours Onyx Black, Storm Grey, Ventura Orange and Silica White. They also report that getting one of these special editions of the McLaren 570S Design Edition represents an economic saving compared with fitting these accessories to a McLaren 570S, which “only” increases its price by £8,500.

As for the mechanical side, no improvement is added, so it keeps the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers 570 CV of power and 600 Nm of torque. If you want to get hold of one of these editions you can reserve it now; deliveries will begin early next year.
