McLaren 720S, the supercar from Woking is finally revealed

The McLaren 720S makes a big entrance at the Geneva Motor Show with its spectacular design and technology, but it doesn’t come alone: it will have a version called Velocity.

The wait has been quite long after so much mystery, but we can finally put a face to the new McLaren 720S and, of course, shed a little more light on the details offered so far. But stay tuned, because this doesn’t end here: the McLaren Special Operations division has gotten to work to offer an even more exclusive version of the 720S called Velocity.

But let’s take things one at a time, starting with the spectacular and aggressive styling of the McLaren 720S, which beneath those lines hides a true exercise in design and aerodynamics. Its structure revolves around the carbon fibre chassis Monocage II, 18 kg lighter than the previous version, and the use of aluminium alloys for various components, which means it can attack corners more aggressively thanks to its greater agility.

Its heart, as we had already mentioned, is a 4,000 cc twin-turbo V8 that will deliver a power output of 720 CV and a torque of 770 Nm. With these figures it is no surprise that it reaches 100 km/h in under 3 seconds, while it needs only 7 seconds to reach 200 km/h, achieving a top speed of 341 km/h. Given this, we can only expect braking just as effective, and it manages to stop from 200 km/h in 4.6 seconds over a distance of 117 m. Its consumption is quite acceptable for the figures it handles, with the combined cycle set at 10.7 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 249 g/km.

Inside, the level of finish and materials used is among the best, where leather, aluminium and carbon fibre come together perfectly. Three trim levels will be offered. But perhaps what draws the most attention is its digital instrument cluster that can disappear, which provides valuable information for the driver depending on the driving mode. It will also feature an additional 8-inch touchscreen from which audio, navigation or infotainment apps can be controlled. 3

Finally, as I mentioned at the beginning, MSO has been tasked with personalising the McLaren 720S in a more exclusive and radical way, which they call Velocity, featuring predominantly carbon fibre details, Harissa Red accents that also appear on the bodywork, and Alcantara upholstery.

The McLaren 720S is now available to order, and the first units will be delivered to their owners in May. The starting price of the 720S is set at £208,600, while the price for the 720S Velocity variant is £335,000.
