McLaren confirms a 720S GT3 is coming very soon

The British manufacturer has just confirmed that we will soon see the most radical version of its McLaren 720S, the GT3. This variant will be aimed at the racing world.

The Woking-based supercar maker is bringing some of the fastest cars in the world to our market. It was not long ago that it unveiled its McLaren 720S, and we are still waiting to see the successor to the P1 and the already classic F1. But McLaren has wanted to go one step further, and has just confirmed that there will be a track version of the 720S, which will carry the GT3 designation.

Following the success of the 570S GT4, McLaren has wanted to keep moving forward and create an even more radical product aimed at the competition world and its most special customers. The 720S GT3 arrives with the intention of replacing the 12C GT3 and the 650S GT3, the two quintessential predecessors of the British brand’s latest product.

For now McLaren has presented some sketches of what the final racing version will look like, but it will not differ much from what we see on paper. The 720S GT3 will draw on all the experience the company has in developing competition products and will feature some improvements over the standard version of the supercar.

The engine will be the same one found in the “standard” 720S, a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 720 CV, as its name indicates. But the similarities with the road car end there. The GT3’s aerodynamics will be modified , with a large rear wing, a new rear diffuser and a front bumper better designed for track use.

Carbon fibre will be even more present in the 720S GT3, but it will keep the same monocoque as its less radical version. The suspension will be redesigned and a new adaptive system will be used, which will be responsible for keeping the GT3 on track.

The 720S GT3 inherits an important legacy from its predecessors and McLaren will prepare it to measure up and achieve the same success as the McLaren 650S GT3. The British firm has also taken the opportunity to announce that it will launch a new programme this 2018, which will offer its best customers the chance to experience what it feels like on the circuit in a racing car.

In this way, the brand’s customers will be able to enter the world of competition directly. Furthermore, McLaren has also announced that it will carry out a programme called Driver Development, which will train the youngest drivers to take part in competition with one of the most prestigious brands in the world.
