Surely nobody will be taken by surprise if we talk about the McLaren MP4-12C Roadster, a model we have already dropped a few “tidbits” about and even mentioned the day we learned more or less the British brand’s medium-term plans. Even so, it was a foregone conclusion: after the coupé version, a roadster had to come, no question about it.

Now, what can you expect from this new model? Nothing less than a vehicle that, like every roadster in this category, will sport a magnificent fabric soft top tailored to the demands of any millionaire who takes an interest in it, that is, built from lightweight materials while never losing sight of the goals of showing outstanding quality and, to name one, minimal noise.

Because of this, as you well know, it will be more than necessary to reinforce a chassis that is already outstanding, something essential in a vehicle that has lost something as crucial to a structure as its roof. Even so, McLaren will once again bet on a 3.8-litre Twin-Turbo V8 engine capable of producing a whopping 600 hp.

Unfortunately, for now all of this is more or less well-founded rumour. To hear what it has to tell us officially, McLaren we will have to wait until the first quarter of 2012 at the latest, although it is expected to reveal details by the end of this same year.
