Mercedes-Benz C160, new entry-level step in the range

Mercedes-Benz has announced the addition of a new engine to the C-Class range. This is the C160, which takes over as the entry-level option, a position previously held by the C180.

This is a petrol engine, designed for buyers who do not need outstanding performance.

The C160 uses a turbocharged four-cylinder in-line engine. With 130 CV, the C160 is 26 CV less powerful than the C180. Although performance figures are not yet known, the small engine should not disappoint, offering more than enough performance for normal use.

This engine can only be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, ruling out the excellent 7-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox, which is reserved for the more powerful versions. It will be available in both saloon and estate bodies, resulting in a very complete vehicle for any situation.

Otherwise, the C160 has nothing to envy from its siblings in the range. It can be equipped in the same way, enjoying all the technological features of the new generation C-Class, with interesting elements such as the active chassis, the Head-Up Display or the Full LED intelligent headlights.

Prices for the C160 are already known, at least for Germany, a figure very similar to what we can expect on the Spanish market. In Germany, the C160 starts at €31,683 in saloon body and €33,349 for the estate version. These prices represent a saving of around €2,000 compared with the next engine up, a difference we expect to carry over to Spain.
