Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG: On the track in a tuxedo

The geniuses at AMG have already fine-tuned their latest creation. They have released all the details of the new S63 AMG, a beast with the utmost elegance of the brand with the star.
585 CV, 900 NM, 10.1 litres per 100 km. Any figure is monstrous when we talk about the S-Class, but even more so when we add another factor to the equation: the AMG factor.
The S63 AMG is immediately distinguishable from its siblings in the range. The exterior of this large saloon features new bumpers with larger and more aggressive air intakes, and the rear follows the same approach. A carbon-fibre diffuser surrounds the four exhaust outlets, which produce a guttural, deep sound, necessary for the powertrain to breathe properly. The alloy wheels are forged, keeping weight down, measuring 20″ on both axles. One detail that makes them very special is the centre cap, which recalls the centre-lock wheels used in high-level competition.

For the interior, the German manufacturer has designed a cabin capable of combining the elegance and comfort of an S-Class with the sportiness of a full AMG.
Following the structure of the new S-Class, there are many elements that set it apart from the rest. The seats have been redesigned so that they are now much more enveloping. Of course, they still retain active inflation through air bags, heating, ventilation and massage.
All the wood trim has been replaced with carbon fibre, which, together with the aluminium inserts, gives the interior a sporty luxury look.
In the centre of the console there is an analogue IWC clock that adds a classic touch to the ensemble.
The instrumentation is still displayed on a large colour screen which, together with another display of identical size (12″), makes up the infotainment systems. A striking detail is the steering wheel, which retains the controversial two-spoke design of the “standard” versions.
The technical section is sensational. Starting with the powertrain, it is a 5.5 twin-turbo V8 with direct injection and Start&Stop. Its power output reaches 585 CV, and torque reaches 900 NM, which, combined with a 7-speed automatic gearbox called AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7, allows this monster of the asphalt to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.0 seconds (all-wheel-drive version) or 4.4 seconds if rear-wheel drive is chosen.
Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The exhaust system, designed specifically for this model, features electronically controlled butterfly valves that open or close depending on load and driving mode. The suspension, tuned by AMG, can be equipped with the MAGIC BODY CONTROL system, debuted on the standard versions, which scans the road surface before passing over it and adjusts the damping accordingly.
The S-Class debuts, among other things, the lithium-ion battery, which saves 20 kg of weight, and can optionally be fitted with the ceramic brake system first introduced on the SLS AMG. All of this, combined, makes the S 63 AMG a true sports car.
However, such performance is not incompatible with efficiency. Thanks to all the improvements made in weight, chassis and engine, the new S 63 AMG consumes 10.1 or 10.3 litres per 100 km on the combined cycle, a spectacular figure when we are talking about a vehicle more than five metres long, weighing almost two tonnes, and producing 580 CV.
The S 63 AMG will be available to purchase from September, with a price ranging between 149,000 and 152,000 euros.
