Alongside the standard versions of the Clase E Estate, Mercedes-Benz has presented the more sporting AMG variant to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Without losing any of the additional space offered by this new body, nor the quality typical of the brand, the E63 AMG estate features enough modifications to achieve a most intimidating look and excellent performance.

On the exterior, the front stands out for its air intakes integrated into the sporty spoiler, as well as the daytime LED lights in the bumper and the darkened headlights. A new side air intake comes with the “6.3 AMG” badge and also features sport skirts, as well as widened wheel arches. At the rear, you can see the four chrome exhaust outlets framed by the rear spoiler.

The cabin incorporates novelties such as sport seats with electric adjustment, the redesigned four-spoke steering wheel with aluminium paddle shifters, stainless steel pedals, new higher-quality finishes available in three shades, and the AMG control unit on the centre console. The latter is used to select the transmission mode, the ESP setting (on, off or Sport mode) and the suspension, and as a novelty, a new wheel with which you can select gears more quickly.

Under the bonnet it features the same 6.2 V8 as the saloon, producing 525 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and up to 630 Nm of peak torque at 5,200. It is paired with a seven-speed AMG Speedshift sports transmission, which offers four settings for each driving style. The first is “Controlled Efficiency“, in which it programmes early gear changes to avoid over-revving the engine. Then there are the “Sport” and “Sport+” modes, which deliver the greatest performance. There is also a manual mode and a “Race Start” function that provides the best possible acceleration.

Thanks to it, and despite the size of the car, the E63 AMG Estate can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 250 km/h, as is customary in these models, although it is possible to raise it to 280 km/h as an option. Average consumption is 12.8 litres per 100 kilometres, which is decent for this type of vehicle, and emissions are 299 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

To control the vehicle’s behaviour, the suspension has received several adjustments and is also monitored by the AMG Ride Control system. This offers three modes: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. The first provides the most comfortable setting, while the others firm up the suspension to give a more sporting feel.

On the other hand, the advantage of the estate variant lies in the boot. Thanks to its chassis being widened by 20 millimetres, it offers capacities ranging between 695 and 1,950 litres, a record in its segment. It also features the Easy-Pack system, which includes a boot divider cover, as well as a powered opening and closing tailgate.

Among the safety equipment are the Attention Assist system to detect driver drowsiness, Pre-Safe occupant protection anticipation, and Neck-Pro active head restraints, in addition to seven airbags, night vision and adaptive lights, among others. Besides the other standard features, you can add optionally 19-inch alloy wheels, ceramic brake discs, red brake calipers, carbon fibre trim for the interior, and the exclusive Designo package with new colours and materials, among others.
